Hi all

This bike was given to me for my 14th birthday and I still own it 23 years later. Just had it cleaned up and was surprised by how new it still looks. I used it for triathlons and duathlons back in the day but I was mostly a runner then, so didn't do much other riding. It had an interesting paint job - metallic cherry red paint with a white "paint drip" type effect - haven't seen many paint jobs like it. I haven't ridden it for about 13 years but have just replaced the tyres so it's mobile again. The bike was a little too big for me then (and still is today) so will be converting it to a flat bar set up soon. It wasn't a top end bike, but I couldn't have wished for a better birthday present back then.

Really cool man. I wish I still had my first racer.

I actually still have my first "big" (i.e. 20 inch wheel) BMX as well. That needed more work than just a clean but it's great now. Will be riding it with my young son as soon as he is big enough and learns how to ride.

Nice. Looks well preserved.

I still have my Hansom my folks bought me for my 16th birthday, I'm 41 now.

Hope you enjoy many miles on your little piece of South African bike building history. Please keep the original bars while you run flat bars. Always good to have as original as possible to retail value and desirability.

Very nice.

Nice!

My bike still has its Gotty Hansen sticker on it. And it complements the Le Turbo BMX's I still have with its SA specific history too.

Definitely keeping the original bars. I'm planning on replacing both quill stem and bars so I don't have to dismantle the current set up completely to remove. I actually still have the toe clip pedals that came with the bike, although I think the original saddle might be lost which was terrible anyway. Not that the current saddle is great but it was all I could afford as an upgrade back then on a school boy's budget.

With a flat bar it will at least get used as my run around in the estate I live in. Looking forward to it.
