While on the subject, is there a BMX league or something in cape Town?

Only KZN and Gauteng as far as I know. Have seen a lot of talk from guys trying to get things going in the WP again. The BMXSA page doesn't have any contacts for WP on their website.

Always nice to see new faces at the BMX tracks. My son started about 2 years ago, and you simply cannot keep him of his bike. I always maintain that the skills learned in BMX'ing can be carried over to other cycling disciplines. From jumping, bike control and simply being smooth, those skill are beneficial.

Not as far as I know, but get in touch with Darryn Stow. He does the songo.info development program for BMX in the cape. The songo.info guys always comes up to KZN and Gauteng for the national age group series, so there must be some sort of training facility.

I'm looking for some advise. My two boys aged nine and twelve are very keen Mountain bikers and can easily handle 20km plus rides. They are pretty competent on a bike, the elder is very good IMO. We've been looking at BMX now for a while and went today to watch the Nationals in the Cradle. Boys are now VERY keen to start riding/racing BMX. I'm very keen as its really suits the youngsters and I did it as a sport way back!!!

Anyone on here involved in BMX? Any and All advise would be greatly appreciated. Both boys had PW50 and PW80's so they have full face helmet and rising kit already. A friend has offered to lend us a bike for a few practice rides before we dig in. But I will need to buy 2 bikes and whatever else might be required.

I see this post is already a month old and your boys raced at a Kempton club event.

Make sure to bring the boys for the Germiston club race 14 August. Germiston is a very mild track that is perfect for new riders. They will love it!

You welcome to contact me to discuss anything bmx

Thanks Dirk. Yes, rode the Kempton Club and the Gauteng's the following weekend. Spent some time at Alrode this past weekend. I have Germiston in my diary!! Looking forward to it.

Both kids now have their bikes. Very much excited. Note the right hand which still has the dressing over the stitches where the pins were removed from his wrist. LOL, boys will be boys!! He will only be able to ride in a few weeks, gives me time to strip this bike down to frame, clean, lube and reassemble with much TLC.

Will be at Germiston on Sunday with the young one. :-)
