BB replacement on carbon MTB frame

Any advice will be appreciated.

 

I have a carbon mtb 29er frame lying around. It has a crack in the BB area (no replacement as it is out of warranty and no insurance claim due to wear and tear)

 

Now I would like to start a single speed build but due to the vertical drop outs I have to use an EBB for the tensioning system. I do not want to go the tensioner route.

 

So the question is - when I have the frame repaired will they be able to replace the BSA sleeve with a BB30 sleeve? And where would I be able to get a BB30 sleeve? Has anybody done this before?

 

Is it worth me doing this or just get a BB30 frame?

IMHO, it is possible, but for the kind of modifications you are talking about, it would be waaaay easier to use a tensioner or to get a BB30 frame....

 

The kind of alignment that would be required to get this mod right is not impossible, but chances are the person/company doing it would have to build a jig to hold everything in alignment whist the BB shell is modified. Then comes the issue of structural integrity as 9/10 times the repaired area is stronger than that of its surrounds so the frame may develop cracks around the mod/repair...

 

Like I said, it can be done but it will cost you.
