Blow-Out on Onza Ibex

I've been running an Onza Ibex 2.4 on the front of my Trance for a couple of months.  Have done maybe 500km with it - nothing drastic.  It was a fairly pricey tyre (R850-ish) but I figured it should last a while.

This week, I landed a jump slightly badly (little bit heavy on the front on flat ground, no rocks and the tyre basically blew out - made a huge bulge/bubble on the side.  Definitely wasn't a pinch or a rim, and my shock didn't even bottom out, so I was a bit surprised that the tyre just died like that.

Has anyone here has something like this happen to them?  Any view on whether this is a manufacturing defect/warranty replacement or just bad luck (aka *** en betaal)?  And other than riding better, anything I can do to prevent this happening again?

Worth noting that I'm a fairly heavy guy (90kg)
