Ok I see the 29'er MM Trailstar Snakeskins are R699.  That's not bad and worth a look if my Butcher goes.  Butcher is R599 in control casing.  

 

But I still struggle with slapping that much weight on a place where you feel it most. 300g isn't a little on a rotating part.

 

Edit: I see the Snakeskin is only 70g heavier than the Butcher Control. Hmmmm.  Ok.  It's an option.  Thanks

I run 29" Butcher Control on the front and if I replace with same Im not sure where to find one (Spez concept stores I assume - eg. Revolution cycles/Freewheel Cycology?). Butcher durability and grip seems ok for my needs thus far. Although the Onza Ibex 29x2.4 at R795 currently is tempting:
