Yep, valid points, I was stopped at the exit where bags and numbers and bikes were checked, maybe they got slack... the gearing was so not right on my bike... I had all flats gearing and that cost me loads of time... nice spot that too :-)

You guys were faster overall with TT/tri bikes aero and gearing. I was on a standard road bike, there were people I would pass on every up hill, then they would pull away on flats and downhills, eventually they all slowly pulled away. I wouldn't go back without a TT/tri bike lost easily 15mins with that.

The long downhill from the Junction past the water table down to the river below the dam wall guys would pull 300-400m gaps easily as I was spinning out, I could pull in about 50-75m back on each of the bigger ups, but wasn't in granny gear either.

Would one need a wetsuit for this event. I assume with the time of the year and Midmar it should not be required.

No...very very unlikely that the water will get that cold. I have done the event 5 times and only worn a wetsuit once and only to test it out, not because of conditions.

Thanks,

As I only want to do a 70.3 to proof I can, but do not want to do much of the layout for TRi's.

Already wondering about this as one of my targets for the year is the 94.7.

So might be tricky to manage the training for the two events.

Careful, tri is addictive. I only entered my first one (5150) because I got bored with only swimming. (From a swim background). An well the rest is history is the old adage.
