Adding telemetry data to videos

Virb is a great camera, lasting around the 3hr mark. It also handles camera bounce pretty well, BUT it loves to freeze. I missed a spectacular fall on camera last week because it froze-up 30 min into the ride without me knowing...

I do find that syncing the data with the exact place on the map in the ride is also a hit and miss affair.

I was lucky and got one of the original Virb Elites last year for R1700, when they introduced the upgrade

Compared to my Gopro, it is much easier to use, slide big switch forward = on. For battery life I can't really tell, as I use both for short film segments, Generally not longer than  2 minutes at a time, so never run out.

Using Gopro mounts is a bonus. The telemetry data also a plus.

Editing software for the Virb is designed for simple people like me!

Hero 4 Session I get around 3 hours at 1080p. Not sure on the fps though, haven't bothered looking. Problem with the session, it records in 2gb sections so need to merge all the files afterwards. Not really an issue, just an additional step.

Not sure what you guys use your GoPros for, but how do you merge thrust rate, RPM, stroke length and current position data into the video?

Asking for a friend.

If you serious, GoPro lacks ability right now to do any of that...the 5 has GPS but its restricted to only tagging pics with geodata, those other metrics could be gathered from Garmin units, not sure what thrust rate and stroke length is all about...you may have to ask your friend to explain...

Positional data can be overlayed using any camera footage and processing it through Garmin's VIRB software combined with GPS files (gpx) from any GPS recording device and syncing them together..of course the camera and the GPS unit need to travel the same path!
