Safe cycling in Roodeplat Pretoria?

My son has rowing this weekend.  I was thinking of taking my MTB and riding around the Roodeplat area instead of sitting around waiting.

 

Coming from JHB, I have no idea if it's safe around there?

 

Can any Pretoria guys confirm ?

Buffelsdrift. Just check if you can access it by bike from the dam. I am not to sure which side of the dam the rowing okes gather????. You might need to drive there and then ride...
