Hi

Does anyone have feedback regarding the Trek Top Fuel 8 2016 edition?

There is a good offering from a shop in Pta on it....

I am not familiar with the Bontrager rims, tyres, Bontrager saddle, suspension setup... well, nothing really from Trek

I am currently on a 26inch Dual Sus - 2013 Silverback Mercury.

I have one and I love it. It's not a bike that you see at every event. Mine is a large and it weighs in at 13kg. The standard grips is a bit hard but nothing serious. The things I miss on it are remote lockout and a dropper, but off course it comes at an extra premium of 30% on the current price. The bike climbs like an A380 and my legs give in before it feels like the bike will fall backwards on steep ascents. The black colour is not ideal, but something that I got used to. The standard tyres take can rock hammering, but they don't like mud very much.

Never owned or riden one, but Trek is a high quality brand. Bontrager is a Trek brand too, making anything from wheels to saddles, even helmets. Their quality is top notch too.

Trek is one of the leading bike brands worldwide and what makes it even better is that the founder of it was South African (hence the Afrikaans name)

Thanks. Trek is a proper brand in its own right. I am just not informed on their inhouse development brand ito wheels.. Bontrager, in my head anyways, is a saddle-helmet-sock brand. Not wheels...

That is my concern...

Are the wheels any good? Hubs? Is there any propriety rights built into the wheels? Can you swop the hubs out with any other? Or vica versa - keep hubs and move to different rims?

I have a Trek Superfly and must say its the best bike for me will recommend it.

I saw the top fuel 8 and was impressed with the specs.

Hubs and wheels of Bontrager are great, never had any problems and the hubs only got there first service after 3500km and they roll very smooth

Bontrager have been making wheels before the made helmets and socks etc. I've been cycling for 20 years or so and have never heard of a single complaint against Bontrager wheels.

From Wikipedia "In 1995 Bontrager's business partner, Hans Heim, left to join Santa Cruz Cycles, and put his share of Bontrager Cycles up for sale. Trek acquired Bontrager Cycles and hired Bontrager as president."
