Saint Pedal Bearings

Can't say i really noticed this. Will check them thought.

What i did notice is that with one bearing short, the pedal stiffened up a little bit after my ride but before it was spinning well. Just hope with all the bearings now in that it doest happen and that nothing is funny with the little lock nut and the other one below it that hold the bearings in place.

Gosh, everything time i DIY theres an issue.

A finger scoop is about how much grease you need.

Did you find your Saints have a small amount of axle play even new out the box?

Mine had the smallest amount of play out the box. But really had to mission to even notice it.

I have recently been watching vids of how to service and most said that after removing the cartridge you fill the pedal one quarter of the way with grease and reinsert and tighten appropriately.

How often do you guys service yours? I have been wandering if it's time yet but just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Every time I DIY I always start out nervous and always have at lease one heartstop moment. But against all odds it has been so far so good.

It is always the best feeling once you have done something yourself though. Also starting to slowly build up quite an arsenal of bike tools.

Congrats on finding the missing ball, looks like 2017 will be a winner for you!

Well, all i was doing is fitting a new saddle when i noticed the cartridge seemed to have come a little loose and all that was needed was to ust tighten it back in again but i saw that as a sign t service it, which i did.

Th nother pedal is still fine but will service that too this weekend with the method Skylark mentioned.

I have had the pedals know for about a year now and this was the first service

Ok cool, I have been running mine for about 6 months now so will probably hold out a bit on the service.

Please post here once you have tried the method Skylark mentioned so I can see how it went. Interested in some real world experience as all I have seen is youtube vids.

Did mine the other day. Do not agree with that push grease out method. Also did a complete clean. Was swearing at the guy who put too much locktite on right pedal then stripped the lock nut because left hand thread inside too, meh! Took an old XT pedal and used that inside the saint. Guess what normal thread both sides on those.

An Xt clipless pedal?

Is the axle cartridge/locknut a straight swop/fit into the Saints?

Be awesome if it is, so easy to get spares!

I wouldn't use the grease pushing method if the cartridge looked contaminated once you've pulled it out but often when I service my pedals they are still pristine inside they just need some fresh grease, for that it's perfect.

I'd say service every 6-12 months, depends on the mileage/amount of dust/mud you ride in. Keep an eye on them, if they start to feel rough/knotchy service immediately.

Yeah was a XT clipless and just transfered everything over to that axle from the saint.

Thanks, good news that , what model Xt pedal was it exactly if you can remember off hand?

For future reference if anyone needs spares, I never saw anyone mention this possibility online when I read up quite extensively about the Saint pedals, makes them even more awesome!

Just so we are on the same you could put the complete Xt cartridge incl axle/bushing/bearings etc and locknut into the Saint pedal body?

Basically you could use everything from the Xt pedal bar the Saint pedal body and it made one complete functional pedal.

Every since i serviced the pedal, it keeps stiffening up after a few ride.

What happens is the nut below the top small nut, the one that sits on top of the bearings comes loose and somehow makes it way onto the bearings making it a little stiff when rotating the pedal.

Again, today, i tightened that nut and the the one on top of it quite tight so that it doesnt come loose but i suspect it will again.

Anyone have this issue before? Could it be because i might have too much greese around the nuts causing them to come loose?
