Bicycle licence fees

However if more of us recreational cyclists acted in a more considerate manner, we would have less pissed off motorists and less of these rants.

If we want to preach rights, we need accept that we have a behavioral responsibility too.

Especially this time of the year when every weekend warrior wakes up thinking "Feck, it's less than 2 months before the Fun Ride Road Champs, I better get spinning".

The road over Helshoogte to Franschhoek looked like there was actually a cycle race on today, and I am sure somewhere someone rode 3 to 4 abreast again because of a congested shoulder.

I would be happy to have my bicycle licenced and get a licence to cycle on the road. IF the cycling lane infrastructure was maintained and kept safe!

Bicycle licenses will have no impact or effect on the safety issues experienced by recreational cyclists. However it will add a massive administrative burden to issuing authorities, for very little money, and be a financial back breaker for a lot of poor people who use bicycles as their transport.

And why should there be a bicycle 'license' fee? So that a few self-righteous loud mouth "haters" on social media be quietened? Not a good enough reason in light of the above.
