Garmin Edge 305 replacement

I am in the process of updating replacement values on my insurance policy. One of the items that I need to update is a Garmin Edge 305. In the event that it should get lost/damaged/stolen, what would the equivalent replacement model be?

Would it be safe to say that the Edge 520 would do the trick?

Similar functionality would be the 500 but that's dated and Garmin do not stock it as well as the 510. I would opt for 520.

How on earth did you manage to keep a 305 going for so long Grebel.? They were notoriously unreliable, you must have gotten a Monday one... .. but seriously, I think you must be one of the few left with an operational 305, thats quite incredible.    

 

I remember I had one of the early ones and it packed up after 2 years or so, Garmin did a few updates or something and it worked for a few months more, then gave up again.

 

I was a lot more energetic then and figured "what the hell" so I googled a bit and found a few "fixes" - which I did, it was quite interesting and to be honest pretty easy, and they actually worked and that kept it going for another year or so, but............well, that was pretty much the end of it.

 

I bought the 510 then, which still works flawlessly, but as Scotty says I dont think its supported anymore.

Phone Navworld and ask them what is the replacement model and get a quote.

Yeah no more updates or support. Got mine through a mate who went to the states a few years ago. He brought back a couple of 305's and a 705 just before they were launched here. Had to do a few "hard resets" over the years because it wouldn't switch on, but overall not too many issues. Charge still lasts a few hours and the GPS reception can be a bit dodge sometimes... I've been careful with the rubber flap and tried to keep it dry and safe. So far so good! Long may it live !!!
