Ex roadie looking to get reasonable mtb . Few things :

I'm looking at 35k mark . ( and I don't want to spend more )

Alu dual sus seems to be what I can get to in that range

I don't want to buy new ( I know the spiel ) , I want new .

Aiming for a marathon racer type vibe for stage racing and marathons .

I have done mtb riding before and I am comfortable on most trails but now looking to do it full time .

I prefer rock shox to fox

Have looked at Merida 96 800 , Spez comp, anthem

Any advice or directions to an existing thread of same nature , I came up with nothing in the search.

Appreaciate any advice of ideas .

Cannot recommend Anthem highly enough. I was very dubious but have never looked back. I bought the 2014 model in Feb 2015 and saved about 30%. Love my Anthem

Coming off a tcr advanced SL , I'm also a fan of giants. Is there a giant dealer in Jhb that slows demo ?

Having had two Epics, I love them, BUT I must say that at that price point, I think the Anthem offers a better package?

Edit: As a self proclaimed "ex roadie" now, consider this our last amicable engagement, sies!!

The momsen vipa ac is in your price range ...

Just goto your nearest momsen dealer ...

Jeez that's a great looking machine with XT . So far could be top of the list . Now just one question . Where and what is a momsen dealer ? I feel like I go into bike shops for a living and have yet to see a momsen for sale .

I bought mine from Bruce Reyneke in PTA - they were happy to give mea bike to try for a weekend before I bought as well. Also would suggest looking at the Rocky Mountain Element. Tool Up Cycles in sort you out a test bike.

Yup, it's sad hey.

With your new MTB you can ride all the way to the Cradle from here on gravel, so I get your motivation.

Try Bike market in Mellville they advertise a lot on the hub and seam to have a range of Giant's at good prices.
