pe3nguin Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 If you are happy to plunge into the second hand bike market, you could probably find some very good deals at that price range.Have seen full Ultegra bikes going for close to R15K.If you want a new bike, I think you will struggle to get 105, but at least you will have that new bike smell.I would recommend finding a good deal on a pre-loved bike though.

Audible Anarchy Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 As a new road cyclist, you can find a decent aluminium bike with a Carbon fork and a 9 speed groupset for between 9 and 12 k odd new. This will leave space in your budget for the inevitable costs that come with needing a decent set of kit, a helmet, spares, perhaps trading up for a little nicer pair of wheels etc etc... You dont need a full carbon 11 speed premium race bike if you are still testing the waters. To give you an idea... My bike - 2013 full Carbon w/ ten speed 105 and decent Wheelset is approx 8.7 kgMy missus - 2015 alu w/ carbon fork and 9 speed sora weighs approx 9.5 kg If you're set on max spec for your budget, look for a decent 2011/2012 used giant TCR or similar in the classifieds.
