Pre-Race Hydration Issue

All I can say is don't do something different on race day to training days. If you don't drink like that before big training rides, don't do it before a race.

That way you know what effects you and how.

Yip, agree fully, that is the plan!

Certainly on race morning, no doubt the nerves get the bladders going if the toilet queues are anything to go by....

I think your nerves could also play a role here!

Just a thought, have you tried to use some other pre-race drink instead? To be sure that is the specific product that is causing it or perhaps your body is just like that .... who knows you may be surprised

I used to drink Cytomax a year or so ago and unfortunately it was the caffeinated version so that resulted in lack of sleep...especially after a race lol

But in all seriousness if I did not just buy a kg of Energ I would try an upgrade...

I'm using a phone now, so will give the short version.

Google the ingredients. Several of them are diuretics, and some if them place exessive load on the kidneys.

E.g: magnesium pulphate, sodium citrate, potassium phosphate.

Can post some studies later, if anyone is interested

That would be much appreciated!

Would they add diuretics to assist in what they call "gastric emptying"? Have seen this mentioned by (I think USN and Cytomax)....

Look forward to studies....

As an added thought, on training days I either have breakfast 2 hours or so before ride and start drinking after a few km, OR have breakfast on the bike which entails drinking 500ml of juice just before ride starts and having a goo for breakfast as I get on the bike, I have no issues....

The diuretic effect is from the day before, through the night and into the morning.

For now for races I will definitely revert to the training routine...
