Shimano rear free hub on fh-rm35 service

Good day all. I got some gunk in my freehub. Don't ask. How do i open this type of free hub. I dont see tys little dust cover at the back. Thanks

You'll need a tool that fits into those slots visible in the second pic. It'll need to be tool steel, and the freehub will have to be attached to the wheel cos you'll need to clamp the tool into the vice and use the wheel as a lever to get that cone undone. It's kinda tight.

Soak it in De greaser for a couple of day s then in isopropyl alchohol for a couple more - blow dry and resoak in the alchohol with compressed air a few times to remove the degrease and then soak in gearbox oil overnight - don't bother opening it.

 

Easier to clean with an ultrasonic cleaner when closed but the method above works well - my one ss freehub have been going 25 years with about 2 or 3 cleans like that.

 

If it doesn't work just buy a new one - they are pretty cheap.

Just buy another one if you can, last one I bought was around R150.

I got it opened cleaned and closed. I cant torque itbto 360 though. I am going to buy a new one and keep this as a spare. I just wanted to see hoe ot works inside. Now i know. DO NOT DROP THE LITTLE BALLS WHEN YOU OPEN IT. THERE ARE ALOT AND YOU GONNA BE LOOKING FOR A WHILE.
