Hello everyone

what are your thoughts on upgrading from V Brakes to cable disk vs upgrading to hydrolic disks.

I know the fundimentals of brakes and how hydrolic brakes work, what i want to know is, dont forget about the price, should one upgrade from V to cable disk as the budget allows or save up for really long and put hydrolic disks or just wait until its time for a new bike before going over to disks.

I hope that makes sense.

Thanks

Simple answer.

Save and buy Hydraulic.

Don't waste time and money going to cable disks, they are no better than good V's

What about cantilever brakes?

I have those on my 15 yr old Diamond Back... they work well.... sometimesLOL

Works perfectly on my Mongoose.  The only reason I am looking at disk is because one is starting to have problem finding frames and forks that can take canti?s/V?s.

What kind of bike do you have? Is it a good frame? Is it worth upgrading it, or would it be better to just get a new bike?

If you think it's worth upgrading, get prices on disc upgrade as well as a really good V upgrade. Then let your finances decide. Wink

save your money and stick with your v - brakes if you not having a problem with them. i've got v's on my one bike and disks on my other and you aren't going to notice the difference unless you riding in the rain or snow. (if you can lock-out your v's then they don't have a problem with stopping power.)

if you doing serious down-hills or long races such as the epic you going to be looking at a new bike that comes with hydrolic disks anyway.

disks aren't always the answer. lots of people finished the 2nd day of the epic complaining that their disk pads had worn downand they had no brakes, but they actually were clogged with the that lekker klein karoo dust, while those few with v-brakes had no ploblems.
