Event Name: Jacaranda FM & Tracker Off The Beat 'n Track
When: 8 April 2017
Where: The Big Red Barn, Irene, Gauteng
Category: MTB

On Saturday 8 April 2017, thousands of mountain bikers and their families will gather for the first-ever Off the Beat ‘n Track mountain biking and music event, proudly brought to you by Tracker and Jacaranda FM.

Tracker’s CEO, Wayne de Nobrega commented: “Tracker is a dynamic and innovative company that has continuously adapted to the changing needs of South Africans. We are passionate about our beautiful country and believe that every South African should have the freedom to explore and enjoy life’s best moments. We are proud to partner with Jacaranda FM to provide a safe and exciting mountain biking and music festival for families to enjoy.”

Off the Beat ‘n Track is the first ever event of its kind; offering mountain biking routes which will range from 2 kms to 50 kms where family members of all ages (from toddlers to experienced bikers) can ride together in a safe and secure environment. Families will be able to picnic on the lawns post their races while enjoying more music they love, live in concert. The star-studded line-up will include Beatenberg, Majozi and Rubber Duc.

Jacaranda FM's GM, Kevin Fine said; “This event combines music, family and sport which – as a brand, we are really passionate about. By bringing the three together we’re creating a space where audiences can engage with their families, enjoy the amazing outdoors of the South African landscape, and be entertained by our celebrated musicians. Partnering with Tracker makes the combination a wonderful proposition, and an annual day to look forward to.”

Calling it the best MTB event of the year on Jacaranda Ads.

So it better be good. Making claims like that. else it won't become a anual thing

Rode this earlier as my first race, the 15km event.

My take:

- Well organised but very congested for the first part often having to get off the bike and wait in the queue around certain parts of the track, especially where the 5km event shared parts of the track.

- Pretty quick for the most part with a couple treacherous sections, I saw one lady being stretchered away. I hope she is okay, apparently she broke her leg.

- Overall a good vibe, nice medal and bike wash area was quick and efficient.

Marking and marshalling near end of 15km was non-existent, but otherwise a lekker day out on the bike with the Mrs :) Fatbike was a good choice for the day, tons of fun railing it on the loamy, grippy track

Was also my first race and did the 15km.

As mentioned was very congested and I think my cleats are worn after the first 5km of stopping and starting. Track layout and markers was poor in my opinion as near the end I was directed to the start and had to go through the back door to the finish line

Hopefully they get it right next year.

Will do the USN race at BRB soon to compare

Did the 50km and really enjoyed it, was good fun.  Bit congested at the beginning but fun nonetheless.

Only issue I had was the markers were a bit poor, went off route twice.  :-)
