I found this article about the possibility of the quick release failing on disk brake setups.

It's a bit of an eye-opener, I think I'll now check my QRs far more regularly.

thats pretty intense and i had a similar problem with my QR levers at the sabie experience last year and i am very meticulous about tightening the QR's but it was a ault with the QR not having enough of an indent on the plastic part of the stopper so almost killed myself because of a machining fault on the QR

I have never had a problem, but have you noticed the ChampionChip chip holder is made of Plastic and it sits sandwiched between the QR nut and the fork, the plastic gets squashed and makes it difficult to set the right tension on the QR lever. You end up setting it a lot looser than you would normally because you feel like you are going to  break the chip holder.

I have been quite nervous after doing this and after reading this article am definitely not going to use the plastic ChampionChip holder.

It just feels a lot more dangerous now.

We should talk to ChampionChip about it before someone gets hurt.

The WinningTime one is metal so no problem.

Interesting read!

I think I have seen this once on my Anthem 2 equipped with Rockshock Recon fork and Juicy 3 brakes.

The skewer worked loose to the extent where I noticed the wheel moving in the fork. Shocked NOt 100% sure, but I seem to remember thinking that the skewer rotated.

Fortunately the fork lips prevented the wheel from falling out.

At the time I was a bit puzzled about it, since I always install the wheels myself and always double check the QRs.

It has not happened again since, at least not to the extend that I noticed it, so I eventually put it down to poor wheel installation on my side at the time.

Will keep an eye out for it now!

My Ringle QR's came loose on me twice. The first time I accepted I may not have tightened them properly because all my mates told me I was an idiot and didn't check them like I should have  When it happened again on the same wheel I turfed them and bought some bling KCNC jobbies. Never a moments trouble since. Except for Marius drooling all over the new onesSmileChrisH2008-05-21 14:31:46

Main cause of QR coming loose is over tightening and not checking that mating surfaces are free of grit.

Chip holders will crush if overtightened and this will allow the wheel to come loose. Also, plastic becomes brittle over time so check it when you do your pre-ride inspection ..... you do that, don't you?
