Christofison Posted July 20, 2017 Share Guess we picked the wrong weekend. Went past the SA border and before we could hit the hard sections we were warned by a nice couple coming down of very strong winds. Glad we made the right decision to turn around because there were a few intense moments. We will be back, views are stunning. Perhaps next time in the summer season.I saw two riders on the tar on their way back to Himeville at about 2-3ish on Saturday. Was that you? We went up on Sunday. Started from the backpackers at 9 and it was a very pleasant ride, until 11 when hit the strong icy winds half way between border posts. The last 4 km's were a struggle as the wind was constantly blowing me off line and some gusts even causing the front wheel to drift while going up the switchbacks. Luckily we had warmish gear to put on, and luckily the top bar serves gluhwein. For the descent I had to put on an extra thermal layer, medical latex gloves over my full finger gloves and some goggles. Managed to Strava an 8th place from border post to border post with a rear brake so desperate for a bleed that I had to pump the lever 5 times for every corner, before the pads would even contact the disc. All-in-all is was tough and unpleasant at times, but such a lekker experience and so much fun. Edited July 21, 2017 by Christofison

Mother nature may have won this round but we will be back. We saw a lot of cars on our way up and it was not long and they were driving back, guess it was really unpleasant at the top.
