Gatorkskins

I have ridden Gator's  for a long time now, with no issues. Just be careful your brake blocks have not moved out of alignment with the rim. A buddy of mine blamed walls of Gator skins and went through a costly exercise of replacing 5 tyres before finding out a brake block had shifted and he was braking on the tyre wall causing a blow out!

I find this whole debate odd.

Why did you post in your first thread if a gatorskin is a good option?

Your second thread you state you bought it and it failed.

Haven't heard of a gatorskin that has failed before, maybe you were just bad luck.

Im just concerned your next thread will be that bikeshop ABC doesn't want to do a warranty claim.

Sure the OP will wise up and next time comment on the same thread. (Hope)

Questions were asked about the quality of Gatorskins and based on comments the OP bought them. Think you confusing yourself.

Don't see why the LBS would use this thread as proof against any claim. He has not said anything other then the new tyres he bought failed.

it still amazes me how many people still believe stuff like :

"pump it up to the max it makés you go much faster never mind the pounding on the bike and your kidneys"

"tighten it till just before it strips then turn it back a quarter turn to make sure it doesn't come loose"

"i believe my 300 buck track pumps gauge is 100% accurate so its fine to push it to to the max"

boom snap oops

I consider myself heavy at 100k and found with less pressure I tend to pick up punctures, especially snake bite issues. Now using a floor pump I get them up to 120psi and 1 puncture in 3 years.

"tighten it till just before it strips then turn it back a quarter turn to make sure it doesn't come loose"

Never heard this (idiotic) advise before but as a DIY bike mach broke my fare share of bolts already.

"i believe my 300 buck track pumps gauge is 100% accurate so it fine to push it to to the max"

As a thought I should perhaps try to have my pump pressure guage checked but ... had no issues to date so don't see the need really.

I have used Gators before at 8 - 8.5 bar with no issues. When I was 105kg.

Just badluck maybe or you did something wrong when fitting them which caused it to pop.

What if you hit something on the road ? surely the shop cannot be accountable for this.

He never said he hit anything. If he did that's a no brainer. If it's a fitting problem again OP has to accept responsibility.

Even after cutting and ripping of the side mesh from old gatorskins I still ride mine closer to 9 bar than 8

Not sure what Marco Crow meant by "blow out"?

Did the tube burst and he fitted a new one and all fixed or did the gatorskin explode and it cant be used again? If so then thats a first for me too!
