Okay, so the stand wont be "rigid" ....

But I still want a stand to use outside to wash the bike .. and for this I want to be able to remove the wheels, on the stand ... and with some degree of ease .....

Rain outside .... good thing in the Cape

Music on in the garage

Time to figure this tool out .. no such thing as a bad tool, just to figure how to best use it ...

OKAY - clamping the saddle post the bike is nose heavy and the nose dips ....

AAaahhhh .. and the penny drops !

Put a step under the front wheel - and the bike is stable .. as long as I push UP on the back ....

Removing the rear wheel is easy.

Now to refit it :

- clip chain over rear cluster

- rest tire against frame near crank

- roll it upward, holding the derailure back and guiding the brake disc into the pads (for this it is best to have that front wheel STABLE)

- once in place, pick up the rear axle from the tool tray, pull back slightly on the wheel and the axle slips in.

Okay, try again - without the step - push up on the rear wheel and the front wheel rest on one of the stand's feet ... same process and it is a breeze.

May be even easier if I drop the stand height by 100 to 150mm ...

YES, it is "wobbly" ... but it is possible to work around that.  Dont fight the wobble, figure it out and work with it. .....  At least I WILL be using this to wash the bikes outside.

What does your bike weight? My XL Scalpel hangs / no dropping - guess its the Lefty

One webpage gives the weight at 14,8kg .... sounds about right for a non-carbon full suspension bike ....

Should add it is a LONG bike, so clamping it by the seat post has a lot of weight to the front.
