This may have been mentioned before but how did your accident happen?

Was it around the Benoni area? would like to know so I can avoid or be more cautious in that particular area...

Nice build by the way...where are the progress shots? :P

Progress shots will appear as soon as I have all the bits. Just basically need handlebar and stem. I'm thinking of buying from bike24.com? Any experience?

Crash happened when I swerved to avoid a vehicle that had over taken me then turned across in front of me (no indicator.) and I ended up going into the back of a stationary vehicle.

That's a great looming frame!

Bike24 apparently pretty reputable. And good prices. Ribble.co.uk used to have really good pricing on the deda aero bar which could also go well, but that Aeronova looks sick!

Remember when selecting stem that the Aeronova has a long reach. Its also apparently a little flexier than other bars, so may not be the best for sprinting if thats what you're after. Why not pair it with the 3T integra with the integrated garmin mount?

I do not have a Garmin, I have a Rox 10.0. Although the Integra does look interesting. Certainly got that aero buzzword floating around in its design does't it? Not sure I am sold on the look just yet. CRC, Merlin and Bike24 don't seem to have Integra. So I might just settle for a normal stem. :(

Interesting you talk about flex. Some reviews seem to say its a bit flexi. Others not so much. Being a light rider (65KG) I am not sure if I am big and powerful enough to get flex out of it? Although I do think I got a fairly decent sprint on me.

As for the reach. I am so confused on that topic and so are a great many other buyers too. Maybe you guys can give me a more definitive answer.

I had Easton EC70 wings on my KTM. Ergonomic curve with a flat ergo top as well (not aero). They are 44cm wide. Drop is ~150mm - 152mm. And I loved riding on them. Drops were a bit deep though.

According to what I can find on the interwebz about them, reach is 78mm. Which you will see I get a similar figure from the leading edge to the hooks. (Tape is a tad skew but it gets the point across)

Now if I measure from the center of the clamping point to the hooks. I get approx ~100mm

And apparently there is some confusion on the aeronova's reach too. As I have heard some people claim that the reach on the aeronova is taken from the trailing edge of the aerotop. If that is the case the center of clamp to hook reach could be approx ~ 99mm or less.

So the reach situation really does have me scratching my head a bit.

I just read a review on the aeronova. They measured the reach from the center of the clamping area to the hooks and came up with a figure of ~95mm. So it seems the reach could actually be SHORTER than on my EC70.

I made a bit of an assumption with you wanting the 44cm bars that you were bigger ;) I'm coming in at 6'4 and over 100kgs before breakfast so flex worried me a little. But they just look SO sick!

I was also looking at the Aeronova a while back and just remember that the measurements showed the reach to be longer at 104mm. For comparison their Tornova is an 83mm reach which is a more traditional reach. I doubt that 3T measure the 2 differently, but to be honest I don't know where the measurement reference points are. They also say on the Aeronova description "Reach is longer than a conventional drop bar, placing rider in a more-forward position."

Apparently they are measuring differently. Because I saw a review (cant remember the sight) where they measured the Aeronova from center of clamp to the end of the hooks and came out with 95mm. If I use the same method on my Easton's I get 100mm. So yeah.

I am looking at the 44cm for the reason that the aeronovas are only 44 at the drops. They are narrower on the hoods. Will be around 41.7cm on the hoods. And since my AC's are almost exactly 42cm apart I based my buying choice on the fact that the 44's are not uniform with their width. But no-one seems to have 44cm LTD's.

It is actually getting really irritating. Retailers have been out of stock for ages.

Unless I just get 42s and call it a day? ????

Have you had a fit done before? If so maybe ask the guys that did it? Or if some guys can get the 42s so you can compare to the Eastons before buying?

I am now having a real hard time deciding between the Aeronova and the Easton EC90 aero. But I am leaning towards the Aeronova cause it looks like I am guaranteed a spot to mount my Sigma. Where I am not 100% sure if a Sigma/garmin will mount on the Easton.

Usually the aero stems have a different mount. One that bolts directly to the underside of the stem.

A google images search for "aero stem garmin mount" shows some nice examples. I like the Enve one.

Ok so the stack on the Fuji is 538 and the reach is 386

the KTM was 551 for stack and 397 for reach. Based on my understanding the Fuji is a bit smaller and I should be ok with a 100mm stem and the slightly longer reach on the Aeronova bars am I right?

So the build continues. Handlebars arrived as did stem and wheels!

Next up will be in progress build photos!
