Gravel bikes for Karoo2C

I am thinking of doing the 2018 K2C on a gravel bike - maybe the soon to be released Giant Toughroad GX with 50mm tyres. Anybody got an opinion on whether this is a sensible idea? Well, forget sensible but is it viable?

Pretty sure there were a few gravel bikes last year.  I reckon a gravel bike is perfect for the K2C.

I did it on a rigid SS HT two years ago.

 

Different but nice. I am considering doing it on my RLT on 40mm takkies if I decide to drive down else I will do it on a Niner SIR 9 which is down there.
