I have a 2018 Fuel EX 5 and it is great. I changed the handlebars (Spank Spike Vibra Core 800mm) ;  Dropper post (Pro Koryak) ; Brakes (Shimano SLX) ; Tyres (Butcher Grid front HighRoller2 rear) ; DMR V12 flat pedals. I love this bike. But as any proper deskjockey always looking to change something…my wishlist is a Pike fork and wider rims with better hubs. But….on a tight budget. I was thus thinking maybe do 27.5+ tyres instead of the Pike and wider 29 rims. I know it will be no substitute for the Pike but given the terrain I mostly ride here in S.bosch (bone-dry super rocky) I was thinking I could benefit from the 27.5+ tyres. Next time I’ll only buy the frame as I end up changing out most of the parts and then struggle to get rid om them.

Mine, having ridden a rigid steel single speed for the last 10 years, it has many levers, buttons, cables and gadgets to discover and get used to. Single track downhill at my local trails, I was laughing out loud!

Can’t wait to hit some “proper” trails. Going to Thaba on Saturday.

If budget is a constraint, maybe another option will be to look at a Revelation instead of the Pike, and getting wider rims built onto your existing hubs?

Budget is a constraint...meh

Even with the Revelation I'm looking at 10k+ where as there is a guy on the classifieds selling Plus Size Wheelset, 2.8 Tyres @ R 4,599.00

LBS said it's not worth putting decent (wider) rims on the, and I quote, "k@k " hubs the bike came with - then you also looking at new spokes, wheelbuild etc.

I dunno..I think the +size tyres will be cool (given my situation) but maybe just sharrap and ride my bike.

Hmmmm

I started on a Spaz Hardrock hardtail with cable brakes before switching over to the Fuel EX...GAMECHANGER

I still ride everything I did with the Hardrock, but you just can't compare the two.

No matter how I feel before the ride..biiiig smile after
