Hi Hubers

Can anyone give me good advice what torque wrench to look at. I'm in a proccess to buy my own tools to finally work and service my own bike but dont want to buy useless tools that will not be used.

The most useful is one that measures 2 - 15 nm.  I have the Park Tool which is great but expensive.  Previously had one (Pro Tool?) -which I lost - and it worked well.  Was good value for money as it came with the 1/4" drive hex bits.  This range covers everything that clamps onto the bike and Shimano crank bolts.  Pedals, cassettes and BBs are above this range but less critical in terms of accuracy.  For home use I think any of the available ones would be ok.

Get the Norbar if you want a tool that will last a lifetime. I've had mine for 7 years and had it checked for accuracy 3 times over that period, and it has always been 100%.

15nm is sufficient for almost all bike fasteners, especially when tightening carbon bits - stems, seatpost, handlebars etc. Only time you will need more is for cassette lock rings and crank bolts.

Not cheap but a lot cheaper than a replecement carbon part damaged due to overtightening.

I’ve got a 1/4” drive 2-14Nm Parktool and a 3/8th drive 15-60Nm Norbar. My pride and joy tools. They were not cheap but worth every cent. Use the parktool mostly, and the Norbar mainly for cassette lock ring and crank. Use both for the motorbike etc.

You will NEVER regret buying good quality tools IMO.

My suggestion. Buy the 1/4” drive small wrench first as it will be the most useful and be used in the sensitive parts where torque is critical and getting it wrong can/will be very costly. I tightened up cassettes, cranks and other things for years without a torque wrench and without incident. Was only for piece of mind I decided to add additional ranges.
