Drilling out the end stops for the housing to allow for continuous housing will not void the warranty. We are protected by the Consumer Protection act. They would have to show that you weakened the frame to void the warranty. Careful use of a Dremel with a ceramic cutting tool does the job perfectly. We used to do this routinely but these days most manufacturers design for full housing anyway.

You are only protected for 6 months under CPA. After 6 months, you will have to rely on the manufacturers warranty.

Most manufacturers will void a warranty if you start modifying the frame in any way including drilling out the cable stops.

i have good and better news...the Anthem is back on the wall in my office with its new temp. wheel fitted ready to ride...a new s/s gear cable fitted...which will result it smoother gear shifts :) decided to leave as original(exposed wire)...dont want to have any issue with a warranty claim.

the original wheel is having new brass nipples fitted...5 new spokes because there was an issue with the threads on 5 of the original spokes.

i instructed the person to replace "all" the spokes because i thought the thread might weaken due to the corrosion on the spoke thread (was not aware that they were s/s) i thought they were also ally.

as soon as i can get an adaptor for the thru axle back wheel i have organised to fit the anthem frame i will be sending the back wheel in for the nipples to be replaced...as a safety precaution...not prepared to take a chance.

lesson learnt...if i decide to replace the marshmallow...part of the sale agreement will be that the nipples on the wheels are replaced with brass ones...and the gear cable is stainless steel and totally covered...none of this exposed wire for water collection and rust.

the front wheel and disc fits perfect...it seems the rear wheel i organised will not fit on the anthem...i was going to get a sleeve turned to fit inside to convert to a quick release...unfortunately the anthem has a 133 mm spacing for the wheel and the wheel i organised has a 143 mm hub.

i was going to get the all the nipples front and back replaced and keep the other wheelset as a spare...just in case...i was going to fit tubes to the spare wheel set... so that if they were not used for a while it wouldnt become an issue with the sealant.

anyone looking to swop?

What hub is on that new back wheel?

the hub is a shimano brand...i contacted a few bike shops and been advised that i have to replace the hub...it seems the shimano hub has no adaptors...you have to make one up yourself...which i was going to do...unfortunately the width is also incorrect...so i have canned the idea and gona rather unload the wheel set i bought once my original wheel is repaired.

even the disk bolt are not the same.

I'm seeing this so much these days, alloy nipples popping their heads off from corrosion.

It's for this reason I refuse to build wheels with alloy nipples unless a customer insists....

And signs a waiver. Just in case of a short memory.

Yup, Shimano are not convertible unfortunately. Your plan is the right plan.

It is flippen dangerous...if i hadnt run my hand over the spokes as i did before i removed the bike from the wall...i wouldnt have known the nipples where corroded...just imagine if they had come loose why flying down the single track at Giba after a jump...it is the front front wheel with the problem...in fact the more i think about it...even the back wheel collapsing...eeeeiiish.

a warning to anyone with a giant anthem using the original wheels (PCX-2)...best you squeeze just pinch the spokes together...i am replacing all the nipples with brass ones...regardless...just in case.

Naah, wheels don't just collapse with broken spoke.

I've ridden my giant wheels (on a Trance nogal) hard while spokes were broken.

There is a bigger danger of a loose spoke going into a rotor or derailleur, and that will really suck.

my concern is not a broken spoke or 2 ...trust me being a fatty i have had many bad experiences with spokes breaking on the back wheels of my bicycles...especially on the road bike...which normally snapped at the hub not the rim...then having to ride 40 km to the finish line with the wheels rubbing on the brake...my concern is 30 corroded nipples on my front or back wheel...ready to pop out...as what happened when i ran my hand over the spokes...only 2 popped out this time...but as i mentioned at 100 kg landing after a jump...i would rather not take a chance.

something to mention...i have never had a spoke "break" on the marshmallow while riding it...even at 110+ kg...i may not be fast up hills...but i love the thrill and speed down a steep hill...with a few decent jumps.

the day i found the corroded nipples i was going to ride at Giba on my own.

this thread is not to trash any company or brand...just take note and check that the nipples (if they are ally...i am sure there are other brands) when the bike is serviced...or at sealant top up intervals.

i saw what happen to a mate when his front wheel collapsed...it was a one legged (fork) bike.
