What is the trick with removing the SRAM GX cassette ?

I have the tools, and have removed many Shimano cassettes.

Watched many YouTube videos ....

But the SRAM GX cassette is TIGHT !! I know how much effort it took to remove the Shimano cassettes, but the SRAM does not even budge ....

I dont want to resort to a powerbar and end with expensive school fees ....

If you're not using a chain whip then you going the wrong way, if it's possible remove the end cap of the hub. This will make the cassette tool to sit deeper in the cassette.

With XD freehubs they are generally tight because the cassette actually fastens onto the freehub rather than the lock ring into the freehub as with non XD

Putting it politely the XD cassette is not a great design.  Sram do not restrict the manufacture so you get varying free hub qualities.  I have even had to finish off castings on the lathe just to get the cassette to fit.

You fit it "blind" in that you can't see the that the cassette aligns with the free body slots all the time when tightening - and the spec is "tight".  If the slots on the hub get damaged the subsequent fittings always tend to align with the damage.

.

The lockring teeth are brittle and will break off if the removal tool is not held flush.  This is difficult when you have to use extensions on the tool handle when overcoming the initial torque.

Depending on the hub I have two methods for removal.  If you have a freebody that you can remove from the hub with cassette intact take it off completely and mount two pins in a vice so that you can drop the freehub spider onto them.  This takes the place of the chain whip.  Hold the tool in place with a piece of threaded rod through the tool and freehub until you are able to overcome the initial torque.  You can also use this method for fitting the cassette if the freehub seal allows you to remount the cassette fitted to the free hub.

If the above is not possible I have a tandem skewer that I can hold the tool on  with.
