Newbie on cycling

Hi Guys

So late last year I got bored of weightlifting and taken an interest in cycling, particularly MTB.

I am very clueless in the sport and I'm looking to invest in a bike for a "newbie", you know something affordable nothing too fancy but can enable me to learn the sport and hopefully fall in love with it.

I stay in close to Koeberg, Cape Town. So that's where I intend to cycle most times. I am around 178cm tall and weight is around 90kg

Please help

You'll get a lot of different opinions on this subject.

I would look at Silverback and Titan as they tend to give you more bang for your buck.

What is your budget?

Make sure you factor in other costs for essentials like a helmet (no helmet, no ride) and padded shorts (saddle sores are no joke), maybe pedals if the bike doesn't come with any (yes, that's really how they mostly come), and hydration ()either bidons (bottles) and cages / Camelbak (or cheaper equivalent).

Welcome, same background as you. 85kg / 175m. Started cycling to get fit. Still hit the gym but have dropped down to 76kg. The added weight wasn't helping up hills.

Long story short. Cheaper to loser weight rather than buying the lightest bike.

Plenty brands to test ride and choose from. What you need to figure out is what type of riding you'll be doing. Long rides, technical descents and ascents, casual weekend ride or do all that...a bike for every occassion.
