Possible countermeasure for violent crime - TMB national park

Like most I'm really guttered by yesterday's murder.

There's been a spate of violent attacks on the mountain, and they all seem to feature a similar MO - disproportionate violence.

If someone threatens me with knife/rock/gun, I'm going to let them have my bike. But then don't injure or kill me anyway. That part really gets to me and everyone else I've heard comment.

The only solution I've been able to come up with is this:

We establish a standing bounty for information leading to the successful capture and prosecution of anyone involved in an attack of this nature on the mountain. Not just for this latest horror, but ongoing.

Let's start with say R50 000. If you stab or otherwise injure/kill someone on the mountain, your chommie can get R50k for turning you in.

I've got a thousand rand that I'm prepared to put towards such a cause.

I can't think of any other way to create a meaningful deterrent for acts of violence on the mountain.

The area is too big and porous to police, no matter how much money you throw in that direction.

This bounty is for acts of violence against anyone on TMB national park - commuter, stroller, hiker, picnic goer, runner, mtber etc.

Would like to hear your views.

The issue I see with this is that there are people who don't mind being in prison.  They could get together with a 'friend' and make a plan to work together.  The one goes out and stabs somebody on the mountain, the other one turns them in and claims the reward.  Two days and R500 bail later and they're both walking around again but are R50k richer.
I just see this as creating more incentive to commit violent crime and not a deterrent.

This is my view on it anyway.
