I'm getting really, REALLY tired with Mr. Cliffs comments towards cyclists. We should get a list of names going and mail it off to BCCSA so that if he ever flaps his lips about cycling, he pays a fine.

Alejandro Alvarez, 34, of Brownsville, died at the scene of the accident. Alvarez suffered injuries to his skull and throughout his body, the Mexican news outlet Agencia Reforma reported in a Sunday story. Fourteen others were injured at the scene. Their conditions were unknown.

The accident happened at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, just 15 minutes and seven miles into the race, after the cyclists began their ride to Playa Bagdad, Reforma reported.

The bike race participants were allegedly struck by Jesse Lopez, 29, who drove a 1989 Gran Marquis. Lopez was driving drunk and under the influence of drugs, Matamoros newspapers reported in their Monday editions.

personally i'm reaching the point of suggesting that a class action suit gets laid against him inth e constitutional court - his behaviour constitutes HATE SPEECH. plain and simple. what about all the township commuters who are being mown off their bikes by the township lighties who listen to 5fm?

 

and personally i fail to understand how ANY cyclist continues to listen to 5fm as long as they employ this pathetic individual.

i can understand the anger us as cyclists feel when we see this kinda crap. but let's not portray ourselves as people who are full of hate. it's kinda like the sicko how sawed off his dog's head. we were all aghast at his actions, but what i found almost as repulsive were the vicious things that people wanted to do to him.

i didn't hear what he said (i listen to classic fm in the morning), but usually it would have to be directly inciting violence or hatred towards a specific group.

Never challenge Gareth Cliff on air - or any DJ for that matter. It's the same as writing a complaint letter to the editor of a magazine/newspaper. The editor/DJ always, always, has the last say...

 

Just don't listen to his show. I listen to Jacaranda 94.2 in the mornings. Darren Scott has a great breakfast show and doesn't try and be smart or funny or controversial. And today he had Mike Naiker and Mel Miller in the studio ? very entertaining.

 

As for that horrific Mexican crash, it made me sick. Apparently one died and five are critical! Hope that driver never sees the outside of a prison again.

i do think it is hate speech its amazing what he thinks is funny, he tends to be politically correct but thinks he can say whatever he wants about anything else, cyclists are apathetic even though i saw on a poll nearly 40% have had a incident with motorists.
