I?ll be 100% honest by saying that Cycle Lab has never been my first choice and I have always done my best to give the bike shops of Table View especially the one that sponsors our cycling club first bite for my business. The only problem I have with them is that they are generally closed by the time I have fought my way thru the 5pm traffic so getting my bike there is always a huge stressful effort.

I needed to have my MTB handle bars shortened so Monday I loaded it in my car and dropped it off at Cycle Lab North Gate which is about 5 mins from my work. At the same time asked them to check the gears and brakes and give the bike a quick once over check. The next day I fetched it, the job was done and with a report everything was in perfect working order.

The bill ? well I would prefer not to say just in case it sets a precedent except that I was expecting it  to be 4 times more than what I paid but the real pleasure of the deal was that my half cleaned bike was returned spotless and looked brand new.

Thanks Gary, from now on I will put Cycle Lab North Gate on my preferred supplier list especially when it comes to servicing my tandem, MTB and half bike.

'scuse my ignorance' date=' but what is a half bike?[/quote'] A tandem is a real bike so a solo bike = a half bike.

Can only agree with you mdk555, Cycle Lab Northgate is by far the best place to go at the moment. A friend of mine and I recently went to one of the cycle shops in Tygervalley (less than 2km from his home) to get him some slime for his tubes not knowing any better (at the time) he paid R 45 - 00 each for the slime (of which he bought 3), he also was looking for a bike carrier for his car so we got some prices and went on to Cycle Lab to compare the prices of the carriers we had just got. I was wondering around Cycle Lab waiting for him while he got some prices on the carriers and spotted the exact same slime that he had bought at R 15 - 00 a bottle (R 30 - 00 a bottle cheaperShocked!!!) Needless to say that we haven't been back to the Tygervalley shop and as a side note he has in fact since then spent a small fortune at Cycle Lab (a good 15kms from his home) which he probably would have spent at the Tygervalley shop had they not been such a rip off.

Thought I was going to read something interesting here but seems it's yet another story of excellent Cyclelab service... Oh well.... Embarrassed

it's good to hear about people still giving good service !!

Unfortunately still too many offering bad service.

Never had a problem with Cyclelab, plus the owner is readily available for queries or complaints.

Did they make the handlebar shorter or did they do something about the width? If it was made shorter why not just buy a shorter stem?Confused
Was a very wide handlebar and had about 4cm chopped off each side.
