Cracked Rim

What could be the cause of this crack on the outside of the rim?

 

This is visible on other parts of the rim as well behind the stickers. There is no pressure loss, so it is just on the outside casing.

 

Question 2: If I buy a new rim can the existing spokes be used?

I see you are on the Westrand, best bet is to take it to the very helpful guys at Westrand Cycles, on Ontdekkers road Mindalore. They will be able to examine the wheel and give you a more definitive answer / prognosis.

You can reuse the spokes if you replace the rim with the exact same one or one with the same effective rim diameter.

probably over inflation caused the crack...
