Wahoo Tickr x cadence accuracy

I bought a Wahoo Element and a Wahoo Tickr X recently (impulse buy ).  I was playing with the display settings on the Element and noticed that I am actually getting values for cadence and average cadence on rides, which tweaked my curiosity....

I googled a bit and it seems the Tickr X calculates the cadence (and strides for running) based on movement, but I found very little else.  Now the question is how accurate are these calculated cadence values and how does it calculate it?  I tested it on a spinning bike trying to move my upper body as little as possible but it still picked up cadence....

TL;DR: Wahoo Tickr X calculates cadence, how and how accurate is it?

Out of curiosity I once compared my watch's cadence (accelerometer) values against my pedal (Garmin) cadence and it was way out, FWIW.  (Granted it was on my wrist and not mounted on bike)  I guess if your chest is moving perfectly and reliably in sync with your pedal strokes it should be closer.

(The Wahoo transmit both ANT and BT, maybe you can test it yourself e.g. HR strap cadence to ANT app on phone, and your mounted cadence sensor)

A question for you - how do you find the running metrics of the X?  (Vertical movement etc)  Useful?

I use the same combo - elemnt and tickr x

When comparing cadence on the spinning bike's display in the gym to the cadence I see on the Wahoo fitness app its spot on.

When using the device free workout function and comparing it with strava, times and running pace is correct.

Never had issues, only when battery started running out it sometimes didn't connect.

I have not used the X on a run where I had my phone with.  The results from the "offline" activity was very basic.  The device starts recording the moment you put the strap on (yes yes I know), so for my next run Ill put it on as I leave and take it off immediately when I am done.

I also need to test it with the phone and app running,  Should be interesting.

Thanks for the response.  Ive noticed a slight delay when stopping for example.  I would stop and about a second or two later the cadence will drop to zero (not that it bothers me at all).

I have to say I think the  Element and Tickr X is an awesome combo.  Ive only been using it for a month now, but Ive had no issues (Unlike the wife's Polar :cursing: )
