26" frame with 26" wheels but a 650B fork- Will it work?

27.5" refers to rim size, independent of tyre size. 27.5" is not the actual measurment of the rim's diameter, more a marketing term. So the fact that they are closer to 27" than 27.5" isn't really worth debating because a fact is a fact ;) and... if you include the tyre in the measurement you must compare apples to apples, ie thin tyre to thin tyre, wide to wide.

Although I do see your point and agree with you - tyre size does make a big difference, a 27.5x2.1 wide Ikon is very different in diameter to 27.5x2.5 Minnion DHF. So the OP will have to be careful when it comes to tyre choice for the rear wheel.

My bad, I was not trying to debate actual rim size, merely tried to make the point that the tyre make a difference.  Must have been past my bedtime!   :w00t:

Haha all good, your point on tyre size is 100% true ;)

Since we are on the topic.

I dont agree that the 27.5" is that actual measurement of the rim independent of the tyre.

If you measure the rim on its own, outside diameter, 584mm = 22.9"

add a tyre now the measurement becomes 698mm = 27.48"

Hence the fact that tire choice makes a difference.

"The term 650b comes from French tyre sizing nomenclature - the number indicating the approximate diameter of the wheel, including tyre, and the letter corresponding to an approximate width"

Not sure that your "facts" are correct.

Thanks for all the advice guys, it is greatly appreciated.

It appears though that I may be chasing the white rabbit at this stage. My bike is an older Morewood Zula. Currently fitted with a 100mm fork. My initial idea was to get a 120mm fork since they were made to be compatable with 80-120mm of travel but I don't necessarily want to throw money at a 26" fork and I'd like to use the bike more toward trail riding.

So the idea was to get a 27.5" fork (research shows that the Zula can safely be converted in any case) but still run the 26" wheels in order to slacken the bike out a bit. My next challenge seems to be that I need a straight taper 27,5" fork with 120mm travel. It is becoming increasingly clear to me that I am after an Unoptanium Unicorn horn. So I either need to settle for a used 26" straight taper fork with 120mm of travel or I need to suck it up and save up for a bike that suits my needs, as apposed to trying to make my bike fit the needs it wasn't built for.
