CGC are getting regular updates from Conserve in the cradle.

This was an initiative from Conserve that was started after the Cyclist was shot about two months ago.

I will try to share as many of the updates here as I can.

[09:30, 10/16/2018] +27 83 488 0400: Good Day. When protests at informal/formal settlements erupt, it most certainly is a security risk, in fact it could be fatal for the wary road user. The flow of accurate information is of great importance, keep us informed. However early warning is equally important, relay this information to our 24/7 Office before a protest happens, this the preferred option. Once a protest erupts, it in inevitably followed by violence, and will continue until the end. But here lies the issue! A message may go out stating it is safe to pass the point where a protest has just dispersed, however flare up can happen in minutes/seconds. Therefore, plan up front at least two alternative routes past any possible flash-point, accept that for the rest of the day the situation will be volatile and the area should be avoided. Always keep SAPS informed by phoning 10111, stating your name, contact number and location. Stop as far as possible away from the protest, have an escape route and give yourself ample space to u-turn and retreat to safety. Pop in at a Coffee Shop, rather than be caught in a traffic back-up close to a protest action. The less attention the protesters get the better. Constantly keep your family informed of your whereabouts. Once our Control room has dispatched an Alert, communicate the latest relevant changes in status to 0834880400. Lastly, when Community Members, Security Companies at flash-points, who at their expense and risk, advise you not to enter an area, please cooperate, they only doing it with your best interest in mind, respect that and thank them. [10:06, 10/16/2018] +27 83 488 0400: 16/10/2018 @ 10h05. Good Day. When en-route to the Cradle Area, please take note of the following. Beyers Naude past Zandspruit Honeydew is a no go area, use alternative routes. When cycling in the Cradle, after yesterday's illegal protest at portion 26 Kromdraai (Kromdraai Cash Store) at the inter-section of the Kromdraai/Sterkfontein Caves roads, although much of of the debris has been removed off the road, there is still broken glass in places.
