Can a Rockshox Recon be improved

A lower leg service, fresh foam rings and some SKF seals should help with making the fork a bit more active. As Jewbacca suggests, some quality time getting the air pressure and damping settings dialed will also go a long way to make the fork feel better!

Agree with most of what's been said here - it's not a great fork, but it's definitely not rubbish.

Drop lowers, if the foam rings are dirty give it a full rebuild or send it to Jacques at Cogent so he can.

25% sag, set rebound (Vorsprung have some good info on their site about this)

And Robert's your father's brother.

Ja well no fine. Lots oc suggestions. Thanks. Being a long time mtb rider I have a fairly good understanding of set up. The forks have done less than 2500km(picked up a 2016 XTC advanced at a godfather price earlier this year). Loving the lively feel of a fast frame after having a sluggish Spez Camber for the last two years. Before that a Giant Anthem1. Both bikes had Fox CTD spec forks and were as smooth as butter, especially over small bumps. The Recon, in comparison, is horrible, hence my desire to improve it. Having taken early retirement thanks to a problem body, I no longer have an income to simple fork replacement.

So, have you serviced it? 2,500 km even at 25kph is 100h, so it's probably overdue for a full service now.

If you have, then follow the recommendations you find here. You asked for help, and you got advice. Fiddle, assess, repeat. Short of buying a new fork that's pretty much all you can do.

You ain't gonna get anything like a custom tune for a Recon son. That damper's about as agricultural as you'll get in a RS.
