Doing a sub 11 Trans Baviaans

I know it is a “how much is a house” question.

But, what would you reckon is the amount of hours, or kilometers, or meters climbed a week one needs to be able to do a sub 11 Trans Baviaans (also known as “THE 1/4 Munga”)

Week 2 done...

The conundrum I have is that ALL the climbing is after about “honderd en ‘n klomp” kilometres. So in my world, after corrugating for four hours, the fun only begins.

I did my first one on my trusty Giant XTC. Was only able to ride out little Mac out of the climbs. 14h45m

Second TB on my friends’ Trek Superfly, much better on the “prison making” corrugations. Little Mac I could handle, as well as Fangs 1 and Neverender. 3/6. 15h15m

On all occasions I have been the weak link from the people completing the race. In both years we had teammates forced to pull out during the race. One on 100km and one on 7km.

In 2019 we would like to ride sub-something. I am still the weaker one though. Both my partners for 2019 have 20+ years cycling.

I, in the mean time, have lost 10kg since the last TB and 20kg since starting to cycle 4 years ago.

I owe Jack Black 2 beers. But, next year I will double-or-nothing him again. In order to beat him, we should target 12 hours. But doing 11, that should clear my debt.
