Tubeless for Road Bikes- BS or does it actually work

I had the same experience, my bike came with Giant Gavia tubeless tyres, died with glass cuts - replace the tire and it happened again. Switch to Schwalbe pro-one (best ride feel I've ever had), but died with glass cuts x2 that wouldn't seal under pressure. I then moved to Gatorskins for 2 years - zero glass issues, other than missing the Schwalbe ride feel.

I've just switched to Continental GP5000TLs with Revo Sealant 10 days ago - so far so good, similar ride feel to the Schwalbe's, noticeably better braking and cornering than Gatorskins, especially in the bit of rain this morning. I've only done around 300kms as of this morning, but really loving them so far. They do seem to be wearing faster than the Gatorkins. Its too early to tell on 300kms how they hold up to glass long term etc - looks good so far, can't see any of the chipped rubber I would see even on the Gatorskins *touch wood*.

I plan report back on the thread:

PS: Love the bike, please post some pics!

Hi Manuel,

I run at between 3 and 5 bar, not very religeous about pumping to a pressure. Love the pro ones on argent rims. For me the ride and 2 year's experience makes a possible lift home worth the risk. And the ride.... sublime. I put a 28mm on back, to replace my worn 25. Lekka. And I'm no slower

Congrats, looks awesome . What's the ride like? I'm so tempted :).

Thanks :)

Without too much experience to compare to other bike brands, apart from older Trek models like 6.9 which I rode for a number of years, this bike really is unbelievably smooth. I really cannot fault it. Main reason for upgrade was to go electronic on the gears and I have not been dissapointed! Even the rim brakes are much better than my 6.9 which I did not expect at all, to the point where I would say they not far off disc brakes in the dry. I was concerned about spending the money and if it was going to be that much better to what I already had, but I was blown away and it exceeded my expectations! If you willing to spend the money I can absolutely recommend it.

Thanks for the feedback, I wish you many happy kms!

I upgraded to Di2 at the start of the year - absolutely love it :). I really like the look of the Trek SLR though with fully internal cable routing, I'm just worried about how it will handle the Cape Town cross winds!

In crosswinds there is a bit of movement but it is predictable, much better than my older Trek also with deep section rims. I went for the 60mm wheels, there are other options available. Good luck!

Thanks all for the responses. I fitted the last Bontrager R3 TLR tyre yesterday, if I get another puncture that wont seal I will either go for the Conti's or another brand or just put tubes in.

I will try and give feedback in time, will appreciate if you guys will also so we can find the best tubeless solution.

Dont be too quick to blame your tyres. It would seem that all sealants are not created equal. Check out the video from Bike Radar, although for MTB there are some interesting learning points regarding sealants.

Hope this helps
