2018 Giant Fathom 2 - continuously drops chain

Hi Everyone,

 

I need some tech help for my cousin.

She bought a 2018 Giant Fathom 2 about 5 months ago and almost since the first ride the chain drops of the front rings. This seems to happen at random times not just during shifting. Sometimes she will ride for a bit, stop to wait for buddies to catch up and when she wants to pull off...it has dropped. Sometimes in rough technical areas and other times just on a smooth piece of gravel.

 

Two different bike shops have checked and adjusted the derailers. They have replaced the chain and are now waiting for what sounds like new cranks and both the chain rings that Giant is replacing under warranty.

 

Do any one have some other ideas as to what may be the cause of this?

If the limit screws on front derailleur is correct then it could be that the crank has a wobble (chainring not running straight) have had it before but most cases its the limit screws or front derailleur is to hi could be another problem.

As mentioned above the front derailleur positioning can be at fault or the crank can be out of true (have a wobble) or a tooth might be bent on one of the chainrings.

If the chain tension is incorrect then the chain might come off aswell but since the chain has been replaced I'd expect the bikeshop to have checked chain tension.

chainrings and crank were replaced. bike seems to behave now.

have only ever heard good things about Giant agents happy you got it sorted.
