And officially postponed.

Lazy weekend in the mountains it is then.

Now it opens up the opportunity for 2 gravel races - Wilro (new) and Circus (also new). Best get hold of those organizers before I decide to drink on a Monday.

Dear cyclist,

It is with great sadness that we have made the decision to cancel the 2020 Cycle Lab Maluti Double 90, powered by Biogen.

It was a difficult decision to make, considering that it was the first time that team entries sold out completely since the event first took place in 2015.  The event is becoming extremely popular, being centrally located and offering a unique experience to cyclists.  It is a great loss to the PPA as well as the Clarens community, as many organisations and businesses benefit from our event.

Our events team initially postponed the event until early September but the dilemma that we face now is that even if restrictions are eased and the ban on gatherings are lifted, mass participation events as we know them will most likely be restricted to fewer participants, to manage the potential for the event to become an infection hotspot. The Maluti Double 90 running at full capacity will attract 1500 cyclists, participating in teams will not allow for social distancing measures.

Teams who entered the event for this year have the option to defer their entry to 2021. Alternatively, teams will be refunded 70% of the entry fee paid and will be given first option to enter the 2021 event as soon as entries open.  The team captain of teams who wish to accept the refund must send an e-mail to liandri@pedalpower.org.za on or before 30 June requesting a refund with banking details included.  All teams who have not requested a refund by the deadline will automatically be deferred to 2021.

The PPA continues to support cycling initiatives through its national Bike4All project.  In light of the current COVID-19 pandemic, bicycle mobility can contribute greatly to social distancing and provide affordable, independent mobility to all who have access to it.  You can help us distribute some bicycles to commuters by donating R2000 of your entry fee refund towards a Bike4All bicycle which the PPA will distribute on behalf of your team.  If you would like to contribute to this initiative please contact us.

We want to thank all our sponsors for their support and faith in this iconic event.  Most importantly we want to thank you, our cyclists for supporting us, without you there would be no Maluti Double 90.

We will be back next year and promise to give our best to make it the most memorable experience for you and your team.  We hope to see you next year and value your support.

Regards

The PPA events team
