Entering W2W Pinotage event but have to choose accomodation.  Need to decide between the luxury tents and maybe other accomodation close by.

Anyone chose the luxury tents in the past?  What is it like eg what makes it luxury?  I cant find any reference or pictures online.

Had the privilege to experience this in 2017

2 beds per tent with duvets, pillows, towels etc.

Carpeted floors

Small canvas cupboard per person for clothing etc.

Bedside table with lights and charging facilities for cell phones and GPS devices

Chairs outside to sit under the awning

Dedicated showers and ablution facilities so no queues

Best part was having your kit bag carried to the tent after finishing day 1

Always use it, real bed with bedding, large tents you can  stand up in, big plus is they supply a power lead for the light that you can use to charge all your devices.

Personal preference, but if you have the choice to stay close by this might be a good option.

My W2W experience last year was that spending 2 (eventually 3) nights in the same campsite was a bit boring. Tents were hot (albeit I was in economy), and the lounge area/beergarden was nice, but limited. a bit mindnumbing to be there all day from 11am.

You get three types of racers at W2W. At most stage races actually.

1. The Serious Racer.

This oke's job is to race his bike and win.

2. The Wannabee Racer.

This oke has a real job. Yet he takes his racing very seriously, and believes he can win, even if he finishes amongst the E batch riders. You can find him afterwards in the FNB Tent hogging a beanbag and phoning his office for a sitrep.

3. The Bachelor Party racer.

These oke's usually travel in packs, they're off the bike routine is a blur of grab bag, grab tent, shower, eat, and then they settle in the beer tent and cheer/heckle their mates who come in after them.

If you are in group 1, go for accommodation outside of the village, byou need to sleep and not risk getting sick with the plebs.

If you are in group 2, go for the luxury tents. You will sleep better, and you don't have to carry your bag, you need to save that energy for recovery.

If you are on group 3, go for pleb or luxury accommodation. It doesn't really matter, you'll have a good time anyway, you'll probably just sleep better in the larney tents. And you won't have to walk as far at night to find a loo to help your bladder with all those Windhoeks you had.
