Shipping a bike from sa to the uk

Hi guys, we are immigrating to the UK next year and I am in the process of selling up and getting everything ready for the move.

 

I would love to take my bike over but would like to know what it would cost and which companies to use? I could sell it here and buy a new one over there but have spent a few years upgrading it to where I'm finally happy with it.

 

Any bit of help and advise would be appreciated ????

Usually USD100 to put it on the plane with you as 'accompanied baggage'. If you're not packing a container then I think that is your best option.

I've found that the direct flights (BA / SAA) offer free sporting goods allowance which isn't affected by your normal baggage allowance.  So you can take it over for free.  The airlines going via somewhere else normally charge though.  Either way, if you've got a nice bike and enjoy riding it then take it with you.

I always found it less hassle to ship via courier. Arriving somewhere with a bike box plus baggage plus immigration issues plus family plus getting transport becomes an issue sometimes.

 

I would send it to myself via air freight. I did it many many times when I used to live 6-12 months in a different country at a time for work.

 

If I was a tourist I would take it with on the plane, but as I was there to stay I just found it easier to manage.
