Hi

I have a Titan Rogue Alpine Calypso and looking to change the groups from a 3x7 to 1x11 would this be possible without replacing the crankset and hub?

Or won't it be possible?

I am looking to upgrade the groups to the Shimano ML7000 11spd and then just replace the chainring in the front, do you think it would be possible or does anyone have experience with it?

Thank you

1x11 = no (the freehub is not going to be wide enough for the 11s cluster), but 1x10 = maybe. And 1x10 is probably most of what you want. Be warned though that a 1x gearset on a 26" bike does not give you the same range of gears you can achieve with a 650b or a 29" wheelset. Still fun though.

You have 2 problems to solve -

1. can you put a 10s cluster on the freehub (watch video below).

2. What chainline can you achieve with your current crank? (assuming that you have a crank with replaceable chainrings - some are welded on). You want the front ring close to centered on the middle line of the cluster, or else you'll find the chain gets pulled off the chainring when you are in the outer ratios at the back. This likely means that you need to put a new single chainring in the middle position on the crank. Rapide has some well priced options - go for the wide/narrow chainring as this will help with chain retention.

Edit - if you can find one you can also include a bashring (they were popular a few years ago, not so much now). this helps with chain retention too.

Good luck :D

Wheels size does not determine range - the range will still be the same. Range is determining my the gears alone. However, you will need a bigger chain ring up front to maintain the higher top end on a 26 given the smaller turning diameter of the wheels

This is true for older road wheelsets, but not for MTB 11sp cassettes.

An 11sp MTB cassette will fit on a 10sp freebody.

This all assuming OP doesn't have a screw-on style hub...

Roch you should be able to do what we did in this project - https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/181779-mongoose-rebuild-project/?hl=mongoose

The Shimano hub takes up to an 11-speed cassette.  The 11-46 is a nice all rounder, and cost effective.

You will need a new derailure and shifter.

In the front you unbolt the three rings, and buy a new ring to bolt onto the same spot as the current middle ring.  Not everybody likes the looks of this, but it certainly is the most cost effective ....

Have FUN
