Hub compatibility

Hi Experts????

 

I have a set of American Classics with American Classic hubs. A 10 speed Sram cassette on there previously.

My question is: will an 11 speed Shimano cassette work on this wheelset?

11s Shimano mountainbike cassette = Yes

11s Shimano road bike cassette = No.

 

 However it is possible to have the 11s road cassette machined down to fit if it uses an aluminium 'sprocket carrier' design.

Hard to tell. The fact that it previously had a 10speed cassette on does not mean it’s a 10speed free hub. Was there a spacer on the hub with the 10speed cassette. If so, am 11speed cassette will probably work, just remove the spacer
