I'm looking at purchasing a new Garmin watch.

I have had a look at the Venu SQ i really like it A LOT!

Any Venu SQ users out there that can maybe give me some insight on this piece of tech?

I am very happy with the Vivoactive 4. Seems this new model packs the same technology, all but the altimiter.

Slightly better battery on the Vivactive, but this is very much a function of using the smart functions ....

Seems like they built the Vivoactive sensors into the old Forerunner shape .... at a decent price.

Even has the NFC, Garmin Pay, functionality .... if your bank supports this. I am really enjoying this.

On paper this seems like a nice watch.

Only thing I could not find in these articles .... does it have any buttons, or touch screen only ?

Purchased the Venu (non SQ) for my wife during April - absolutely brilliant piece of tech, whilst being reasonable value for money. Also, the quality of the screen is absolutely brilliant and I can only but hope that the next Fenix series will have a screen equally brilliant!

It has 2 physical buttons on the right side along with the touch screen. The altimeter is not such a big issue for me nice to have but at the price i can get the SQ I'm super happy because I'm still using a vivoactive and it's had it's days now. Thank you for the input.

Sadly the the SQ doesn't come with the AMOLED display but I'm happy with a LCD display. Thank you for the input I will definitely be back on with a little write up once i receive it.

Sounds like they beefed up the Frontrunner series with all the tech .... at an affordable price ....

Looking forward to your review.

also looking for a fitness tracker / sorts watch that can be used during swim training...

thinking maybe I want power meter connectivity.

Am I correct in the determination that the cheapest Power meter enabled watch is a Forerunner 745?

If I decide its not a necessity is the Vivoactive or Venu the better option?

Thanks

Seems most of the watches now come with Ant+

Yet few seems to link to power meters ....

Wonder why ....

You do get the Garmin Swim 2 that's specific to swimming and also has the other sports activities as well like cycling and what not.

I bought the Venu SQ for my GF on a Black Friday deal at R3,349, still waiting for delivery. Will let you know once we've set it up and used it but from the research I have done it seems legit and ticks all the boxes. Works with Strava, has a Pulse OX meter, tracks sleep, waterproof, golf, good battery life, incident detection etc.

I have the Vivoactive 4 and I am very pleased with it... Very similar to the Venu SQ.

Don:t think you can go wrong with it.

The tick all the boxes is what drew my attention so I pulled the trigger on the purchase as the price i got it at was R2699 through momentum multiply.

Then definitely worth it! Won't regret it

Thanks for the feedback.

So basically anywhere from R4000 to R7500 will give the activity tracking and swim functions.

If I want Power compatibility its R10k and up unless I opt for Polar Grit X that is R9000
