Finally got to ride at Giba Gorge this morning, while on holiday in Durban. What a great bike park. I have never seen so many kids riding, having great fun on the BMX track and nearby freestyle areas. The future of cycling in KZN looks great. The MTB single track was excellent, if not scary at times. You have to watch out for the black routes! I hope Fourways Bike Park offers something similar for Gauteng kids! And some fun for us older folk too. The restaurant and other facilities were excellent too, as were the friendly staff. All in all, an awesome setup.Cranky2008-07-04 05:33:52

Ooops sorry for using Hubbies Login, i cant remember my password (will re-apply just now - it's a Blonde thing!)

We also spent last weekend at Giba Gorge. WOW it is absolutely AWESOME! when we were there on Saturday, there must have been approx 800 riders in the park, of which 350ish were kiddies! It was fantastic! we felt like we were living in another era. so amazing to see little kids flat out on their bikes for up to 6 hours of the day. Parents were carrying them out at the end of the day like they were zombies, they were so exhausted.

I will post some photos later of the Fourways Park earth movement that is taking place at the moment. Other than the awesome setting of Giba Gorge, Fourways are aiming at exactly the same vibe! Jump Park, BMX Track and small skill track for kids....THEN the adults tracks! THOSE will also be awesome! and then on top of that a Coffee shop to DIE FOR! Roll on Fourways Bike Park.

Durbanites - i hope you relaise how lucky you are to have a park like Giba Gorge - IT ROCKS!

Cranky - if you only rode the marked routes then you missed most of the really good stuff.  The only problem I see in the future for Giba Gorge is that it becomes too popular and cannot handle the volume.

Hey Cranky & Ali!

Where exactly in Fourways is this new bike park? I can't believe I live here and don't know about it! Would love to see the photos Ali - could you post them on Cycle Lab's newsletter too?

Fabulous stuff - man I love my new Giant Anthem 1 - she's gonna get really tested with this facility on my doorstep. YAY!!

Ali, If Fourways is half as good as Giba I'm there.

Something about Giba is the no fuss relaxed vibe of the place. Everyone seems to "deserve" to be there. No stress, it's all about cycling and having a good time. Tough one to match.

That's what I loved. There was no one policing the BMX track. Just the kids - and quite a few adults on MTB bikes - having fun going round and round the track.

Heading back this afternoon, Linnega, so I hope to explore some more. And I'll try the BMX track too, even if I have to eat the dust of 6 year olds passing me!

It's still under construction, but will be where main road crosses over the highway, on either side of the road with a tunnel linking the 2 sides. The aussie reckons some of it will be ridable by the end of august, cant wait...

Hopefully the auzzie build decent north shore in the park ala the old braamfontein spruit stuff and not the way that logwood is, that's tooo steep to ride up and breaks momentum the whole time.

Hey we were at Giba Gorge this weekend - what an awesome sight!! So many people riding and enjoying the facility - the best was seeing so many families there! I am so pleased that the Management there have permitted to host the Amashova Mountain Bike events there in October again this year - it is a first class facility - that offers world class meals and friendly service - and now there is a Cyclelab Shop there that hires out bikes -  we took friends who were visiting from JHB and they loved it - well done guys and thanks from the Amashova girls
