9 weeks to go to Trans Augrabies 2023

TA22-27.jpg.919ab4e28e7c4289e21d1cde18cccdcb.jpg

This is the ONE rider you only want to see at the end of the ride .... the sweeper.

Very aptly named ... as there are "big cats" in this area.  The "Cape Leopard trust" cameras have recorded 9 big cats roaming between SA and Namibia.

Having worked on a number of the farms along the Trans Augrabies route, we have seen leopard tracks on a few occasions.  I have NEVER one of the big cats on these farms.  Still a tingle in your spine when a week later you get the photos from the leopard trust and realise just how close you came to the big cats.

Something extra special about riding across farms and SANS park grounds with wild animals.

The only "big cat" we have to worry about though .... this broom-wagon at the back ....

Hot off the press  .....

Entries close on 26 May.

Three challets have become available.  Pretty sure these will be booked out QUICKLY ....  The simplicity of logistics when you stay inside the park is just SO much nicer.

Bottel hulle fiksheid? Sal $ betaal. My soggens draf slog gaan nie genoeg voorbereiding wees nie.

Gaan deurkom vir `n dag en ondersteun. Gaan by Kameeldoring net buite die park oorslaap.

Saterdag met FNB se personeel gepraat, hulle ry saam paar kliente.

Kom ondersteun asseblief die event!

Hi Chris

XC slicks of trail tyres?

shot

a Few locals ride Aspen`s and do the event annually.

No need for DH tyres even think as Maxxis Forekaster is overkill.

Personally did it a few years back with Rocket Ron and Racing Ralph

@DJuice already answered, in detail.

Have a look at the photos on the previous pages for the wide range of terrain.

Very short sections of loose sand.

Lots of nice hard packed gravel, both roads and hiking trails.

And then the rocky sections .... A tire with decent sidewall protection may be a consideration, or just ride more carefully.

The preferred brand is Maxxis around here.

Not sure if it is available yet.  (last year there were a few small tweaks close to the race date)

I will follow up.  Also want to load it on my Garmin.

The weather is  around 6deg at 04:30 in the mornings, the days are lovely, max of around 23.

The river level subsided over the weekend, hopefully the river crossing will make a comeback.

@ChrisFek is net plein sleg!!!!

I spoke to the organiser.

They are busy with the final route checks at the moment.

Lets not forget, the odd section crosses working farms.

So there is always small tweaks as they wrap up in these last weeks.

The GPX files will be made available closer to the time 👍
