Hi - I have an old (2004?) SPEZ Epic 26'er, that I am looking to fit an affordable, 2nd-hand DROPPER POST onto...

I suspect it is 30.9mm diameter, will CONFIRM this evening...

Anything out there?

Cheers

Chris

thanks, Steady: yes, external routing, Lyne seems VERY out of stock at a good few bike shops, and seeing if I can save a buck AND help put money into someone's hands if they have a 2nd hand unit...

I think Rapide does do one, will go off and check now, I know SURFACE do one, but also out of stock.

Cheers

I can have you a Lyne by tomorrow if you want one. By far the best option you'll find for an externally routed post.

I've also got a ton of used Reverbs, but the price will be about the same and the hose will annoy you in about 3 minutes.

You’ll need one with external routing. Not sure if Rapide do these but I know Lyne does.

I THINK I know what you mean, but could you clarify for me? external, since old bike is not 'dropper-post ready', but am happy to have a small hole drilled to allow cable egress - does this still mean external only solution (other than wireless, not going that route).

Thanks for clarification, unsure about this point?!

thanks, CHris

I'm going to use the KS LEV as an example.

The routing for the cable runs outside of the frame and you can cable tie it to the rest of the cables or if you run 1x just use the routing for the front derailleur

https://kssuspension.com/product/lev/

On the product image you can see a protrusion on the side where the cable attaches to.

Drilling the frame... I'm nervous about this on alu frames. Steel maybe.

The second problem with drilling is where the down tube attaches to the BB shell. It might not be open to join the seat tube. That leaves routing in the top which causes a very sharp bend in the housing so I doubt that will work.

If it was my bike I would take Droo up on the offer to get a post. Spend the money on a new post and have the peace of mind for a warranty as well.

all noted, some good info there, thanks SS (and Droo) - that is much clearer for me.

Yes, my bike in 1x, since it has a Bafang motor fitted, meaning it has only one chainring, so yes, an use the routing for the front derailleur...

Cheers, Chris
