Hi,

Need some advise.

Just installed Giant Conduct cable-Hyd brakes on my monstercross.

mixed bag. Dura Ace levers, Conduct system, SLX mtb calipers.

Fairly sure it is bled clean and cable adjustment is good.

Problem is lever travel. I can not get the brakes to bite properly before the levers hits the handlebars.

Could it be that this system is not compatable  with mtb calipers ?

what else can I look for ?

its possible that your calipers need that little bit extra travel that the system cannot give you.

On my road bike full bite happens with the levers mere mm away from the bars, with worn pads the levers are touching the bars. I've never figured out how to get them to bite sooner (not that I've spent much time trying though)

when you bled the system was the master cylinder volume adjuster dialed all the way out?

did you follow these procedures?

Yes, it locked just after the "do not overlap" line.

Did follow the instruction manual procedure. Will open your link and check, but should be the same.

This was my thought as well.

I assume this check has been carried out? ^

As much as possible.🙈. Don't have the ratio testing device, and my Dura Ace 7800 shifters does not seem to have travel adjustment.

Basically just tentioned the cable as much as possible, lock the grub screw and adjusted the adjusting nut to the "do not overlap" line.

aaaaaaaah you have Dura Ace 7800 shifters.....? the old 10speed system?

these work off a different brake cable pull ratio so I suspect your shift is not pulling enough cable to actuate the calipers.

The Conduct and Conduct SL system was designed to convert 11s Shimano shifters that pull more brake cable

You might be on to something here.

was thinking callipers, but cable pull ratio will give the same "symptoms".

🤔. Where to from here ?

I guess back to mech disc.

You could try Avid BB7. These are compatible with linear pull brake levers I.e . V brake levers. So should be compatible with your R7800.
you can at least play around with the leverage ratio some what through simple hacks like semi activating the brake when pinching down the cable to using washers to alter the leverage. A little bit more hackable than a hydraulic system.

you could try jtech shifter pull ratio adapters but  now I’m heading into budge territory and it’s beer time…..

😀😀. Had the BB7's on. Replaced them with the Giant Conduct. BB7's worked reasonably well.

thought hydraulic would be better.

Hydraulic likely would be better but you’d need to update your groupset to get the best out of them. Shimano R7900 shifters at a minimum. Thereafter its rear derailleur z, front derailleur cassettes, Freehub mods….. bay as well buy a disc brake bike.

try and find the R7900 shifters.
